Arabella Wines

Arabella was founded on the farm lands of the De Wet family in the Robertson region, where they had lived since the 1860s. The Arabella Wines project went commercial in 2006: the first wines were born in 2007, immediately gaining success in local wine competitions.

Arabella is a breed of Arabian race horses that are bred on the farm of the De Wet family. It is interesting to note that the entire Robertson region, in addition to wine, is known as horse breeding, as it has the most suitable vegetation for feeding horses.

The farm planted 265 hectares of vineyards with vines of Sauvignon Blanc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz, Pinotage, Merlot and Chardonnay. The estimated yield is approximately 10 tons/ha, which, in the end, gives a total production capacity of 1.9 million liters. (2.6 million bottles). Every year, the De Wet family plant 20-30 hectares of new vineyards in order to fully provide themselves with their own grapes in the future.

The vineyards on the farm are under very careful control. Soils on the farm are mostly calcium with a high content of potassium. Irrigation is carried out with the help of moisture sensors that allow you to monitor the soil moisture under the vine. All grapes from their own land are harvested by hand, as the family believes that machine harvesting destroys the berry prematurely, leading to unnecessary oxidation. The winery is equipped with modern steel vats with a volume of 50 thousand liters for fermentation, two mechanical presses and a barrel park. Wine bottling and labeling takes place right on the farm. All red wines from the basic Arabella line are aged from 5 to 10 months in old oak barrels, while white wines are aged on the lees for about 2 months.
