Shild

The Schild family has gone from the first German settlers in Australia to one of the oldest families owning their own vineyards and successful wine production in the Barossa Valley. In 1866, the Schild family left Hamburg for Australia, to Port Adelaide. They ended up settling in Point Pass.

The winemaking history of the economy began with Ben Schild, who acquired the first Moorooroo vineyard in the Barossa Valley. These vines are still bearing fruit.
Unfortunately, Ben suddenly ended and his son Ed took over the reins of the family business. At that time he was only 16 years old. Ed's dream was to create a family winery, where the experience of handling the vine is passed down from generation to generation.

On May 1, 1998, Ed gathered his whole family together and proposed the bold idea of starting to produce their own wine from grapes that have been cultivated for more than the first generation of the Schild family. As a result, the first bottle of Schild Estate wine was produced in 1998, and with that, the Schild Estate wine brand was born. Today, the grandchildren of hereditary winemakers continue the history of the Schild estate with interest.

Wine production is about 50,000 cases per year. All from old vines, since they sell about 70% of their production and keep only the best berries for their wines. The Shield Estate vines are among the oldest in the world. They were planted in 1847, just 11 years after colonization began in South Australia.
