Torraccia del Piantavigna

Torraccia del Piantavigna is a high quality, family owned winery making estate bottled wines
from its nearly 100 acres of vineyards in Ghemme and Gattinara in the foothills of Monte Rosa.
Its history began during the 50’s when Pierino Piantavigna, maternal grandfather of the current
generation of the Francoli family, planted his first vineyard of Nebbiolo in the hills above Ghemme
below the crumbling tower “Torraccia” of Cavenago Castle.
Alessandro Francoli, President of the Francoli Distillery, founded the Company in 1997.
Today two family companies from Ghemme guarantee the future of the winery: the Francoli family,
distillers of fine grappas, and the Ponti family, leaders in Italian vinegar and vegetable preserves.
The current generation draws inspiration from grandfather Pierino, not only by making fine wines
but also in its values and attitudes towards the local area, the local community and the environment.
The dozens of awards received for the quality of the wines and the Eco-Friendly award granted
by the Italian Touring Club speak for themselves.
