Geyerhof

The history of this farm began 800 years ago, in the small village of Oberfucha in Kremstal, lower Austria. Winemaking has been part of the life of the estate for more than 14 generations. Today, as in the past, arable land, hedges, cattle, pigs, chickens and bees complement the idea of full interaction with nature.

Since 1988, 23 hectares of vineyards and 27 hectares of arable land are treated in accordance with the principles of organic winemaking. This means not only the rejection of synthetic, chemical pesticides and mineral fertilizers, but also the protection and care of more than 4 hectares of valuable landscape elements around the vineyards. Harvested late, rewarding for courage from year to year fully ripe fruit, which in combination with low yields gives the wines complexity, concentration and depth.

Already in the 17th century was written family history, with references to the Baroque Schiffsmeisterhaus (the house of the captain of the ship) in the center of the family estate. By the end of the 1980s, Ilse and Joseph Mayer were among the first in Austria to turn their vineyards into organic. They also took on the task of completely renewing the estate, which is now considered one of the most picturesque in the country. From the beginning they were members of “La Renaissance des Appellations” – a group founded by the famous French organic farmer Nicolas jolie, covering the world's best organic wine estates. Thus, geyerhof wines began their journey to the dining tables around the world.
