Interesting Facts
Os Caniveis is a blend from vineyard plots in Carlão, in the Cima Corgo subregion, where the soils form a mosaic ranging from schist to granite, at an altitude of 520 meters above sea level. The old vines—between 80 and 92 years of age—comprise more than 17 different grape varieties, all of which go into the blend. The vines are tended by hand, and the soil is plowed using horses. The grapes are harvested into 18-kilogram crates, and the clusters are only partially destemmed. Maceration lasts for 40 days. Following fermentation, the wine is aged for 18 months in seasoned French oak barrels.
