The Domaine Les Enfants Sauvages was born of love at first sight between a Carolin couple and Nikolaus BANTLIN and a place: Opoul in the region of Fitou.
While living in Germany, the Bantlins who ran a belt production business for the industry were looking to move to the south of France. After several years of research they discovered nestled in the middle of the scrubland, a sheepfold surrounded by 7 hectares of vineyards. For them, it's a real shock, a revelation: they will become winemakers!
While the path will be long and painful, the professional reconversion was not simple but the result today is there!
The Domaine Les Enfants Sauvages operates 8 hectares of vineyards with no neighbors of other exploitation since it is surrounded by scrubland. The vines worked: carignan, grenache, mourvèdre and syrah for red, grenache and muscatel for the white grow on a clay-limestone ground while benefiting from the influence of the Mediterranean Sea nearby (5 km).
The winery is in Fitou (Aude) and the vineyards in Ojouls (Pyrénés Orientales). The Domaine Les Enfants Sauvages does not vinify the grapes in the production area, the administration therefore forces them to downgrade their production in Vin de Pays!
The culture is resolutely turned towards biodynamics. Listening only to their belief the Bantlin developed the Wild Children's Domainin respect of a healthy and preserved nature. Chemical treatments are banned, ancient methods of cultivation are brought up to date, listening to nature through the lunar cycles becomes preponderant.
Everything seems to converge today towards the same desire: to give birth to a natural wine without artifice, to a true and sincere product where the thread remains the love and the respect ( The Wild Children adhere to the movement "The Renaissance of the AOC" ).
And it is in this spirit that the last cuvées have been named songs songs Doors, a tribute wink of our two winemakers to their favorite band.
