In 1924, Peter Mertes founded his winery, having an endless passion for wine and everything associated with it. In doing so, he had a specific goal: to make wine accessible to people from all walks of life and to share his passion for wine with as many people as possible. Originally it was a small winery in the village of Mynheim on the Moselle. In 1950, his son, Gustav Willkom, actively studied the regions along the Rhine-Oppenheim, bingen, Mainz. And in 1960, the family purchased the land in Rheingau and Nahe.
Today, Peter Mertes has a Central office in Bernkastel-Kus, many grape sites throughout Germany, the largest wine cellar in the country and has more than 300 professional employees.
