Viña Magaña

Bodegas Vina Magana began with the dream of creating a new, amazing wine, equal to French wines from Bordeaux. In 1970, Juan Magagna bought a plot of land that was considered unpromising. Through his own research, he appreciated the rich mineral composition of the soil, similar to that of the Pomerol region in Bordeaux and ideal for growing Merlot. At that time, the Spanish government banned the cultivation of grapes of non-Spanish origin. Then Juan Magagna bought the seedlings of the Chateau Petrus nursery and smuggled them on a donkey through the Pyrenees mountains. This is how the first vineyard with Merlot in Spain was created. Magagna cherished him for 7 long years before his dream came true and the first vintage was released.

Today Vigna Magagna owns over 100 hectares of vineyards, including the oldest French varieties in Spain. The cellars store up to 1000 oak barrels, and modern installations for the fermentation of wine were designed by the famous architect from Navarra, Rafel Moneo.
