Pedro de Valdivia founded the city of Santiago in 1541, brought with him a vine that¶it marked the beginning of winemaking in the valley of Santiago del Nuevo Extremo. The name "Santiago 1541" pays tribute to this historical event and the founders of wine traditions in Chile.
